So this past Saturday was mostly spent in my sewing room making a skirt. To be perfectly specific, the skirt for appending Steampunk outfit. I didn't put an Oni-con recap up, but to sum it up a little, there was ALOT of steampunk there, and it got me really inspired. So I went back to my old design, re-did it, trashed it, and then made a new one. I've already begun progress in it, but I don't expect it to be fully done until next Oni-con, although I'd like to have atleast the clothes done by December so I could wear them to a masquerade ball that I was invited to.
Anyways, I awoke early, ate breakfast, and began my skirt. I made it using a circle skirt pattern. This pattern involved taking three pieces to make one long piece and then gathering it to make it fit me. This was my first time using the ruffle foot and it was quite a learning expirience. The first time I tried I ended up having to undo it, which was painful. I did better the second time, but it was still a but big, so I added some by-hand gathering to make it fit. I then added the band, I also put in these other two bands about six inches long down the back seem, where I was gonna put button holes, but didn't get to. It was around this time of adding bands that I realized that I was using the wrong type of fabric to make this skirt, or any skirt in general(it was a type of vynl-y[I think] fabric). So I decided that it wasn't gonna be the official skirt, but I mock-up to get some well-needed practice in. The thing that really made me decide that was also the fact that while ironing I nearly melted the fabric(yikes?).
Pictah time~!
Much loves,
San~
